Great bold serif fonts that will look beautiful in your 2020 designs!

This week, we will be looking at the trendiest fonts of 2020: bold serifs. Distinct from serifs or slab serifs, these chubby fonts signal refinement, uniqueness, and a little bit of quirkiness. Think that sounds perfect for you or your project? Read on!

No. 1 Nouvelle Vague Black
This is honestly one of my all-time favorite fonts. I use Nouvelle Vague for my resume and cover letter material as well as my personal blog. It mixes drama and elegance with bold and thin strokes, and has just enough roundness to feel both polished and individual. Use it for everything!

No. 2 Kaoly
Though this font might seem too story book at first, the lowercase letters are lovely and round, and the caps are great to pull in a reader. It probably won't work for every project, but it has potential to look great for certain designs!

No. 3 Al Nevrada
The perfect balance of curved and sharp. Al Nevrada is a very modern, sophisticated font that will make almost any logo, letterhead, or packaging look trendy.

No. 4 Mermaid Bold & Swash Cap
Two tandem and gorgeous fonts that have interest without being too much. I love the swashes on the alternate face, especially the Z and Q characters. (The uppercases are definitely stronger, in my opinion.) The Swash Caps really make it something special.

No. 5 Regatto Bold
Keen eyes will see this is the font I chose for Mugglehug's main logo. Each letter has a bit of interest that drew me in. I like the lowercases better than the uppercases, but overall it is an excellent choice for projects that need clarity as well as individuality.

No. 6 Otama e.p.
This font is kind of quirky, which I really enjoy. It still provides a high contrast finish, but with something that makes you look back a little closer.

No. 7 Goku Regular
All I can think of when I see this font name is my partner attempting to explain Dragonball, but it's a great font too! It is much thinner than other bold serifs, which I think is why I like it. Definitely something sharp and different.

No. 8 Abril Fatface Regular
This font was all over Pinterest and highly recommended, and with good reason! It is not as high contrast as my favorite types of bold serifs, but it still has a lot of impact on the screen or page. It would be great for a retro or vintage look.
