The time is finally here to debut something very special… 💻

I’ve been gone for much too long, but I’ve got my Ph.D. in hand, and my website has officially launched! It’s been actual years in the making, but as I close my doctoral chapter and push forward into a new adventure, I want to be more present in my creativity. ON MY DESK | Something fun I’ve been working on 👀

I am really loving blurring effects right now! It was perfect for a conference poster with the theme “watersheds,” as I think it distorts the type just enough to make it seem like you are reading it underwater.

“Watersheds are places where water flows to a single point before converging into another body of water. Watersheds gather and expand, dissolve and define, blur and separate, filter and create, fill and transform. Watershed

A closer look at some of the paper goods for my @briefclub #TBCthrowback design for The Tea Box! The original brief wasn’t for a subscription box, but if the business is called The Tea BOX, I took the liberty of assuming they would have a monthly club.

I was inspired by Birchbox’s monthly packaging designs with a beautiful box, tissue paper, and a card inside showing what’s in the box. The first slide shows that card and the smaller recipe cards for each tea variety. The second slide shows the tissue paper and tape used to close it. Then we have business cards and label designs for the canisters.

And yes, I am still laughing at myself for spelling Elain’s name wrong. Don’t come for me!!

And now, a closer look at some of the packaging for my @briefclub #TBCthrowback design for The Tea Box! Using the watercolor motifs in different ways was so fun.

When I transformed a vertical mockup into this diagonal flatlay design, I could immediately envision it as a gif on the website where the different types of tea rotated. So I made it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I really loved adding the personal touches to these metal tea tubes, including the rounded labels and especially the watercolor tear stickers. Creating packaging for something that I consume very regularly was a lot of fun, but also challenging because I needed to think of something new! I’d love to put one of these in my cart…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Today’s Swatch Sunday is a closer look at the colors for The Tea Box! I still really love how these turned out. My favorite is, predictably, Lemongrass, but the ways that these colors combine together look amazing.

As I have been learning more and more about Photoshop and mockup creation, the more important than ever it is for me to make as realistic packaging as possible. I see it as a challenge to myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It was really fun to take a flat watercolor image from @procreate and place it onto this 3D bag with blending modes and masks—something I would never have been able to do so well or quickly just a couple months ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Cut to my husband looking at it and saying “It looks like you could buy that in Crate & Barrel for a lot of money!” It made me so happy that I am learning how to create beautiful images and products that people are drawn to. (Even if he is my husband, hah.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here’s the full color palette for my #TBCthrowback project The Tea Box! As I said in Monday’s post, I pulled all of these colors from an image of loose leaf tea varieties. I think it turned out perfectly earthy while still feeling a little bit luxurious.

It’s been a minute, but the Font Archives Vol. 18 is here! There is no theme this week—just four fonts that I have been drawn to recently. I don’t know about others, but I feel like I am really honing in on my design style this past year and learning so much more on how to make what I want come to life. These fonts are definitely representative of a newer, emerging style I am creating. Very polished, bold, and timeless.

My favorite of these is definitely Lichtner, but I also love Decoy’s variety of weights. See anything you’d like to use?

A very springy Swatch Sunday today! The weather has been fairly nice here in Wisconsin (knocking wood and fingers crossed…), so I’ve been doing a bunch of brightly colored artwork lately. And for once, I posed a palette that isn’t mostly green!

A very springy Swatch Sunday today! The weather has been fairly nice here in Wisconsin (knocking wood and fingers crossed…), so I’ve been doing a bunch of brightly colored artwork lately. And for once, I posed a palette that isn’t mostly green!

Remember when I said I wanted to get better at mockups? Well, I’ve been pushing myself to learn as much as I can about not only editing pre-made mockup designs (like this one), but also combining images and creating my own from scratch. I’ve been obsessed with using this gold foil effect for all of the Hargrave items!! I think it looks killer. ⁠

This is a small vignette of promotional items I envision for Hargrave House’s collateral design. Ideally, these items would be used as amenities in booked rooms but would also be sold in their gift shop/store for people to take home. The hair products could be made in collaboration with local Cork beauty suppliers and fragranced with ingredients slouched on Hargrave’s land. Let me know when someone wants to partner with me on a boutique hotel in Ireland…⁠
